Objectives: The purposes of this study were (a) to compare the current smoking rate, one of the most representative health behavior between the basic livelihood beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries and (b) to identify the impact of basic livelihood condition after adjusting other factors.
Methods: The 2017 Korea Community Health Survey were employed for the weighted Rao-Scott chi-square test, the weighted survey logistic regression analysis, and the propensity score matching.
Results: The smoking rates of the basic livelihood beneficiaries were 39.93% for man and 9.51% for woman. After adjusting other factors using logistic regression, the odds ratio of the basic livelihood condition on the current smoking were estimated 1.32 (95% CI 1.17-1.49) for man and 2.03 (95% CI 1.66-2.46) for woman. the ATT, which was estimated using propensity score matching with the other factors, of basic livelihood condition was 0.0437(95% CI 0.0165-0.0709) for man, 0.0384(95% CI 0.0257-0.0510) for woman. In particular, the ATT was statistically significant in 60 and over age group(man 0.0647, woman 0.0524).
Conclusions: Our findings indicated that basic livelihood beneficiaries are important to improve the smoking rates and health level.
